چکیده

During disinfection of drinking water, natural organic matter reacts with chlorine to produce harmful by-products. The identification precursors by-products in is challenging because very complex and poorly known. Therefore, scientists have focused on the fractionation membranes or resins better understand how which fractions react during chlorination. Here, we compared reactivity various For that did a meta-analysis 400 water samples published 80 publications, focus chlorination time dose, SUVA254 column capacity factor used resin fractionation. refers ultraviolet absorbance at 254 nm divided by concentration. We found hydrophobic compounds 10–20% higher both trihalomethane haloacetic acid formation hydrophilic waters above 2L/(mg?m), while equal low SUVA254. On other hand, are 20–80% more reactive towards emerging by-products, regardless Chlorination dose do not influence ratio between different fractions. An increase can shift from Dead-end, stirred cell ultrafiltration membrane might always sharply separated fractions, mainly due fouling. no clear correlation could be all investigated by-product groups.

Removal of natural organic matter from aqueous solutions by electrocoagulation

Natural organic matter (NOM) affects some qualitative parameters of water such as color. In addition, it can deteriorate the performance of water treatment process including coagulation, adsorption, and membranes. NOM also reacts with chlorine in the chlorination process and may form disinfection by-products. The present study was carried out in laboratory-scale in a batch system using a cylind...

Probing reactivity of dissolved organic matter for disinfection by-product formation using XAD-8 resin adsorption and ultrafiltration fractionation.

The disinfection by-product (DBP) reactivity (yield and speciation upon reaction with chlorine) of dissolved organic matter (DOM) isolated from two surface waters was investigated. The source waters, each having significantly different specific ultraviolet absorbance (SUVA254), molecular weight (MW) distribution and polarity, were fractionated using XAD-8 resin adsorption and ultrafiltration (U...

The Reactivity of Dissolved Organic Matter for Disinfection By-Product Formation

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) in 6 water samples collected from 4 surface waters were fractionated using some or all of 5 physicochemical separation processes (activated carbon and XAD-8 batch adsorption, alum coagulation, ultrafiltration (UF), and XAD-8 column fractionation). Activated carbon, XAD-8 batch adsorption and alum coagulation processes fractionated DOM by preferentially removing hi...

Disinfection of water containing natural organic matter by using ozone-initiated radical reactions.

Ozone is widely used to disinfect drinking water and wastewater due to its strong biocidal oxidizing properties. Recently, it was reported that hydroxyl radicals ((.)OH), resulting from ozone decomposition, play a significant role in microbial inactivation when Bacillus subtilis endospores were used as the test microorganisms in pH controlled distilled water. However, it is not yet known how na...
